Warriors notch 39th in row

Freshman quarterback Creed Barrett tossed four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, leading No. 1 Washington to its 39th straight victory Friday night at Reed Field, 42-21.

Warrior head coach Brad Beller rested his starters in the third and fourth periods in the victory.

Barrett was 18-27 passing for 342 yards and the four scores.

His first touchdown pass was a 20-yarder to Nate Roberts followed by a 68 yarder to Case Alexander.

Barrett’s next touchdown aerial was a 17-yarder to Hudson Howard. Mason Singletary hauled in a 46 yard six pointer in the third quarter.

Barrett’s final two rushing scores were on runs of one and 10 yards. He carried the ball 10 times for 45 yards.

“Creed had a career night with six touchdowns,” Beller said of the freshman phenom.

“Our offensive line did a good job of pass protecting,” the coach said of the play of Kingston Stringer, Lane Taylor, Sam Cantrell, Canyon Dowden and Jaxon Byrd.

“Our receiver corps had a big night,” the coach continued. “We spread the wealth around with seven different receivers catching passes.”

Nate Roberts, Mason Singletary and Kade Babcock all had over 90 yards receiving in the contest.

“Case Alexander and Hudson Howard pitched in and both had touchdown receptions. Our guys won the one-on-one matchups and made a lot of yards after catch,” Beller said.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alexander led the tackling chart with nine stops including one sack and two tackles for losses.

Beller said Kane Lampkin had one of his more complete games on defense playing three different positions.

“He controlled the line of scrimmage the whole game,” Beller said.

As a team, the Warriors surrendered a mere 51 yards of rushing for Crossings.

“A lot of teams don’t throw it toward Tanner Olson but Crossings did and he responded with two interceptions. Both of his pick offs gave the momentum back over to us.”

Washington closes out the regular season portion of their season on the road at Lindsay Friday night. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.

“Lindsay is always a physical team and this year is no exception,” Beller said. “They are very, very solid on defense and are good open field tacklers. They bring a ton of pressure and try to disrupt your run game and passing game..”

Beller calls the Leopard offense “very multiple.”

“They’ve done a great job of moving their athletes and playmakers around in space. They have a lot of team speed and are big up front. They are playing their best ball of the year right now.”

Beller said one factor in the game may be if it is raining.

“We have to make sure we control the front line on both sides of the ball and take care of the football,” the coach confirmed.

Warrior notes:

Washington Head Coach Brad Beller nominated Creed Barrett as the Offensive Player of the Week. Barrett rushed for two touchdowns and threw for four more. Barrett completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 342 yards and rushed for 45 additional yards.

Nominated as the Offensive Lineman of the Week was Kingston Stringer, who graded out at 72 percent against Crossings.

Getting the nomination in the Defensive Line was Kane Lampkin who had five tackles including one for a loss.

Tanner Olson was nominated as the Defensive Player of the Week. He finished with three tackles, two interceptions and broke up one pass.
