Warrior homecoming

Washington High School’s gridiron match against the Little Axe Indians on Thursday will serve as the backdrop for the Warriors homecoming and the coronation of a queen and king.

Homecoming festivities will begin with a parade around 2:45 p.m.

The introduction of the royal court and coronation of a queen and king will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the football game at 7 p.m.

Queen candidates are seniors Lydia Horinek, Kamy Johnston and Katie McClary.

Their attendants will be junior Maialen Blanco, sophomore Olivia Palumbo and freshman Preslie Scudder.

The field of king candidates includes seniors Brayden Arthur, Caleb Bruce, Jaxon Hendrix, Wyatt McCauley, Hayden Milner, Nathan Rainey and Cole Scott.

Horinek, 17, is a member of National Honor Society. She is an officer in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a varsity cheerleader. She is a state academic champion and three-time state champion and state runner-up in cheer. Her parents are Shane and Laurie Horinek.

Johnston, 18, is a member of NHS and is a leader in FCA. She is also a member of Spanish Club, the Oklahoma High School Rodeo Association and National Cutting Horse Association. She is a two-time state finalist in girls cutting in the OKSHRA. She is the daughter of Foster Johnston and Shawna Townley.

McClary, 18, is a varsity cheerleader and coaches Little League cheer for Washington. She plays varsity golf and is a member of NHS and FCA. In addition to being an academic state champion, she is a two-time state champion and state runner-up in cheer. She is the daughter of Dallas and Jodie McClary.

Blanco, 16, is a member of FCCLA, band and Spanish Club. She is the daughter of Ignacio Armentia and Marian Blanco.

Palumbo, 15, plays softball and basketball and participates in track. She is a member of FCA and Student Council. She played on the state champion fast-pitch team in 2021 and 2022 and the state champion slow-pitch team in 2022. Her parents are Mario and Mandy Palumbo.

Scudder, 15, is a member of FCCLA. She is the daughter of Benji and Ashlie Scudder.

Arthur, 18, is an FCA officer and NHS member. He plays football and competes in track. He was twice a state runner-up in football and three-time state qualifier in track. He is the son of Brian and Jennifer Arthur.

Bruce, 18, is a member of NHS and FCA. He plays football and competes in powerlifting and track. He is a state runner-up in powerlifting and two-time state runner-up in football. He is the son of Brian and Becky Bruce.

Hendrix, 17, is a member of NHS and FCA. He plays football and basketball. His parents are Rita Hendrix and Jason Hendrix.

McCauley, 18, is a member of NHS, FCA, FCCLA and FFA. He plays football and competes in powerlifting. He is a two-time state runner-up in football and a state qualifier in powerlifting. His parents are Clint and Amanda McCauley.

Milner, 18, is a member of FFA and NHS. He plays football and competes in track. He is the son of Joel and Darla Milner.

Rainey, 18, is senior class representative on Student Council and is a NHS member. He is also a member of Science Club and Spanish Club. He plays football and baseball. He was a Boys State delegate in 2022. His parents are Chris and Stacy Rainey.

Scott, 19, is an FFA officer and is a member of FCA. He is on the yearbook staff. He plays football and competes in track. He is a two-time state runner-up in football and two-time state qualifier in track. His parents are Travis and Trisha Scott.

The youngest members of the court are Harley Maddox, flower girl, and Will Taylor, crown bearer.

Harley, 8, is a second grader. She is active in Washington Little League Cheer, basketball and ballet. She also rides English and competes in Morgan horse shows. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Jason Hendrix and Trey and Katie Maddox.

Will, 5, is in kindergarten. He rides four-wheelers and enjoys hunting and fishing. He is the son of Justin and Brandy Taylor.
