The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
It began with the 1918 armistice that ended World War I.
More than a century later, we continue to observe it by its name since1954 – Veterans Day.
For 68 years and counting, it has honored American veterans of all wars.
Accordingly, it is recognized as a holiday by the federal, state and McClain County governments.
All post offices will be closed on Monday and there will be no mail delivery.
City offices in Purcell, Lexington, Goldsby, Washington and Wayne will be closed on Monday as will First United Bank and McClain Bank.
The McClain County Courthouse will also be closed on Monday.
Area schools, however, will have classes.
Those schools include Purcell, Lexington, Washington, Wayne and the Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne.
