Trail ribbon-cutting ceremony set to take place next week

Posted

A ribbon cutting for Phase two of the Purcell Lake Trail will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24.

The lake trail, located at 1400 Chandler Road, is 10 feet wide and spans a mile to a mile-and-a-half, depending on the path and direction pedestrians decide to take.

City of Purcell Parks and Recreations Director John Blue stated the trail “gives people access to a safe place to  walk, bike, skate, and other healthy activities.”

“There are so many different benefits that you can extract from having a trail like this,” Blue added.

For those that cannot make next week’s ceremony, Purcell is also hosting their third-annual Walk the Trail day on June 3rd from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Organizers plan on setting up game booths along the trail for children to complete to enter in prize drawings. Additionally, free snow cones and hot dogs will be available.

“People may not know that we have certain amenities, so it’s a way to get people out to enjoy the trails,” Blue said.

And although officials had hoped to complete the Rotary playground before the event, heavy rains have delayed the construction's completion.

There has been no official updated timeline for the playground’s completion.
