Tough week for Lex

Rematch with Lindsay Friday night

Posted

Two snow days last week had the Bulldogs sluggish in their game with Pauls Valley as they dropped a 58-43 decision last Friday night.

“We came out sluggish and had to work to come back the entire game. We cut their lead to 11 late in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get closer than that,” head coach Tyler Thetford said.

Hunter Olson was the leading scorer for Lexington with 12 points. Zeke Faulkenberry added eight.

Lexington hosted Marlow on Saturday when their Tuesday night game was canceled due to inclement weather.

Once again, according to the coach, the Bulldogs got off to a slow start.

“We started slow, getting down 11 points after the first quarter. But, the guys’ effort was amazing. We worked hard and got within four by halftime,” Thetford said.

Lexington kept the game close throughout the second half, but ultimately turnovers proved too costly.

“We had 18 turnovers and that was the biggest difference in the game. They were just too big of an obstacle to overcome against a good team.

“But, I’m proud of my teams’ hustle on defense and they worked hard to stop transition points on fast breaks.”

Trey Hartzog and Zeke Faulkenberry were in double figures for Lexington with 17 and 12, respectively. Ty Mixon added eight.

Monday night’s game with Washington was canceled. As of presstime, no makeup date was determined.

Friday night Lexington will be in Lindsay.

“Our last game was competitive. We were down by two in the final minute and ended up losing by six,” Thetford said.

“It will be competitive again and as long as we take care of the basketball and limit turnovers, it’s a winnable game for us.”

With the final stretch of the regular season upon the Bulldogs, Thetford believes that they are on the verge of taking the next step.

“Right now we’re playing good basketball. We have to work on turnovers and being consistent, but I know they’re ready to take the next step and make a run in the postseason,” Thetford said.

Girls

Last week the Lady Bulldogs dropped their game with Pauls Valley, 58-22 and their make up game with Marlow on Saturday, 60-32.

“Basketball season is a grind. We’ve hit a rough patch, losing four games, but the girls are still in it,” head coach Jacobi Couch said.

“The girls are still showing up and fighting every day in practice. We’re looking to grow from these games and get ourselves out of this rough patch.”

Monday night’s game with Washington was canceled with no make up game scheduled as of press time.

Friday night, Wayne will travel to Lindsay. Earlier in the season, Lexington beat the Leopardettes by four.

“This will be another tough contest. We’ll have to stick to our game plan and stay disciplined,” Couch said.

“I believe this team is about to turn the corner and make a big push going into districts and regionals.”
