Mr. Simmons passed away on March 22, 2025 in Norman.
Steven Albert Simmons was born to Albert Franklin Simmons and Frances Inez Simmons (Thompson) in Los Alamos, New Mexico on August 29, 1954. His family moved to Lexington, Okla., in 1959 and Oklahoma has been home ever since. Steve grew up in Lexington, attended school there, and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1972.
He began working as a youth minister, which he did for over 10 years at various churches in the area. Though he held numerous jobs over the years such as construction, printing, and running Little Red Express, his true passion was ministry. He served as a music minister most of his life and loved to sing.
His talent afforded him the opportunity to travel to sing in a variety of places spanning from Alaska to Russia. Steve loved the Lord and put his heart for ministry to work at Lighthouse Worship Center in Purcell for a number of years before retiring.
Even in illness, Steve would minister to the nurses and aids who came in and out of his hospital rooms. His steadfast faith in the Lord brought peace to all those around him, no matter the circumstances. In his spare time, he loved to be with his family, especially his grandkids. Steve tried to make it to as many of their activities as he could and loved watching their faith blossom and grow. He was a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and uncle who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Bertha Thompson and Jesse and Mae Simmons; his parents, Albert and Inez Simmon; his father-in-law, S.M. Kennedy Jr.; step-father-in-law, Louis Dotson and his brother-in-law, Bruce Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Simmons of Noble; his children, Timmy Simmons and wife, Christi, of Midwest City, Joshua Simmons and wife, Joanna, of Midwest City, Matthew Simmons and wife, Lori, of Choctaw, Tanner Simmons of Noble and Jake Simmons and wife, Jordan, of Purcell; brother, Randy Simmons and wife, Jeanne, of Goldsby; sisters, Carolyn Orr and husband, Keith, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Donna Starchman and husband, Dale, of Purcell, Cindy Maynard and husband, Tim, of Lexington and Sandra Simmons of Norman; mother-in-law, Ella Dotson of Elmore City; grandchildren, Peyton Simmons, Kyndal Simmons, Rylee Ojeda, Raigan Simmons, Maddi Simmons, Noah Simmons and Maebry Simmons and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
