The Lady Bulldogs kicked off their week hosting Central Marlow. They fell to the Lady Bronchos 13-2.
“We came out flat and really struggled to get the ball out of the infield. That led us to not being able to piece it together,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.
The Lady Bulldogs collected nine hits in the loss led by Maddie Moreno, Lily Whitaker and Addison Clagg’s two each.
Ava Stottlemyre and Whitaker had Wayne’s two RBIs.
The Lady Bulldogs were on the board first with one run in the first innings. They added another in the third.
Central Marlow tied it up with one run in the top of the second and broke open their scoring with five runs in the second, three in the third and four in the fifth.
“Addison Clagg had a good game on Monday. She’s really stepped up for this year at third base, a position she’d never played before,” Herrin said.
Last Tuesday the Wayne Lady Bulldogs picked up a 13-4 win over the Varnum Lady Whippets.
Freshman Maddie Moreno was the leader at the plate going 4-4 with three RBIs. Alyssa Hobson and Clagg each had three hits and two RBIs. As a team Wayne collected 20 hits and 13 RBIs in the win.
Stottlemyre was in the circle for the win. She pitched all six innings allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits and two walks.
Wayne jumped out in front with four runs in the top of the first inning. They added one more in the second and fourth innings.
Things blew open when they scored seven in the sixth inning.
Moreno doubled to score two runs, Whitaker doubled to score one. Cylie Jones singled to score one, Clagg hit into a fielder’s choice and scored two runs, and Alana Digby grounded out to score one.
Varnum scored one run each in the first and fifth innings. They added two more in the sixth.
The Lady Bulldogs were on the road Tuesday playing games with Fletcher and Lawton Macarthur. They will be in the Fletcher tournament Thursday and Friday. They are in Pool 1 with Ryan and Binger.
Bracket play will be on Friday.
Districts
Next week’s district assignments were released and Wayne is with Drumright and Quapaw. Drumright will be hosting.
Games will most likely be played on Thursday, April 24, but times were still to be determined as of press time.
