School board candidate filing to begin December 7

Candidates for the Board of Education in McClain County school districts will file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 7, and continuing Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8 and 9, McClain County Election Board Secretary Karen Haley said.

Haley said the official filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9.

All candidate filings will occur at the McClain County Election Board office, 121 N. Second Avenue, in Purcell.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education Primary Election scheduled for Feb. 9, 2021 and the Board of Education General Election on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

Candidates may file for the following offices:

Alex, Asher, Blanchard, Bridge Creek, Dibble, Lindsay, Maysville, Newcastle, Paoli, Stratford, Purcell, Washington, Wayne School Districts—Board Position No. 1 – 5 year term.

Newcastle Position No. 3—Unexpired Term (3 years. Remaining).

Gordon Cooper Board Position—Office 3 – 5-year term.

Mid America Technology Center—Board Position No. 2 – 5-year term.

Canadian Valley—Board Position No. 3, Zone 3, - 5-year term.

Moore-Norman Technology Center – Board Position, Zone No. 1, Office 1 – 5-year term.
