After an executive session last Monday night, Purcell’s Board of Education voted to extend Dr. Sheli McAdoo’s contract for another year, keeping her as the top administrator for three more years.
The board also hired a new secretary for the junior high in Mindy Backhaus. She is replacing Hilary Venegas who is leaving the district.
Board members approved sending a set of teachers to attend the Professional Learning Communities Conference in Tulsa May 28-30.
The board updated the district’s physical fitness program, a program that was recognized at the meeting by TSET and YAHL, the youth organization.
“That was for our wellness policy being comprehensive,” Dr. McAdoo said.
The school district entered into a contract with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services for a School Specialist position funded 80 percent by DHS and 20 percent by Purcell Schools.
Purcell Schools approved the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Plan for 2024-25.
“That allows our very best teachers to work extra days for a stipend,” McAdoo said. “Anyone can apply.”
The board approved fund-raisers for girls soccer and the junior high academic team. They also amended the school’s 2025-26 calendar and approved the 2026-27 calendar.
