Lexington had a 7-6 lead midway through the third quarter at Crossings last week but ended up taking a 16-7 loss.
The Knights took a 6-0 lead into the halftime locker room but the Bulldogs bounced back on a one-yard Cameron Weatherford scoring dive set up by a Dalton Brewer interception.
Crossings led 14-7 with under a minute to play when they tackled Lexington in the end zone for a safety.
“It was heartbreaking,” head coach Keith Bolles said. “Our kids played hard. Our defense played really well.”
The ‘Dawg defenders were led by Issac Martin with 10 tackles including three for losses and a quarterback sack.
Weatherford also had a 10 tackle outing. He also forced two fumbles and had a quarterback sack.
Bolles said Wyatt McBride and Gavrie Williams both played well in the defensive line,
“They did things just like we ask of them,” Bolles said of the two seniors.
Bolles praised the place kicking of Kaiden McRavin, the punting of Buddy Cormany and the kicking off by Levi Fincher.
Up next for Lexington is No. 1 Washington at Floyd West Field Friday starting at 7 p.m.
“They are athletic all over the field,” Bolles says of the undefeated Warriors. “They have great schemes, are well coached and play both an odd man and even man front on defense. They execute very well.”
