Mrs. Scott passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

Karene Ann Johnson was born March 18, 1945 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the fifth of seven children born to Bengeman and Frances (Sontag) Johnson.

She was raised in Lexington and attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic School through the eighth grade. She attended Lexington High School, graduating in 1963.

While attending a basketball game, on a cold January night, she met a young man named J.L. “Jessy” Scott. It was love at first sight, and they followed their hearts and were married, November 9th of that same year. They made their home in Lexington where together they raised two daughters.

Karene worked at the State Capital for a time, before taking a job at 1st State Bank. She then worked at Purcell Municipal Hospital before returning to McClain Bank, retiring in 2016.  Karene loved people and her job afforded her the time and opportunity to help her friends and neighbors. She retired as a bank teller, not once, but twice, as she loved her job and community.

When she wasn’t working, Karene stayed busy volunteering at the Lexington Sr. Citizens Center.  She helped in many capacities, from buying and preparing and serving diners. She was always up for a good game of cards and was hard to beat. She also had a love for dancing, teaching her girls and all her grandkids her dance moves, and frequently went to Senior Center dances.

Karene kept an immaculate house and loved tending to her garden and yard. She was a woman of great faith and a longtime and faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was a mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and a true friend. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. “Jessy”  Scott; her parents, Bengeman and Frances Johnson and siblings, Ella Akerman and Sonny Johnson.

Karene is survived by  her daughters, Deborah Catteeuw of Oklahoma City and Kristina Farley and husband, Paul, of Lexington; brother, Earl Johnson of Oklahoma City; sisters, Rosemary Helton and husband, Don, of Yukon, Delores Johnson of Norman and Liz Perry of Norman;  four grandchildren, Michelle Loveless and husband, Matthew, of Stillwater, Donovan Farley of Lexington, Gabrielle Catteeuw of Gilbert, Ark., and Gage Catteeuw of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews; special sisters-in-law, Syble Fitzgerald and husband, Terry, of Montgomery, Ala., and Joyce Scott of Oklahoma City  and a host of other family and friends.
