Graveside services for J.B. Draper Jr., 71, of Lexington were held Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Box Cemetery, east of Lexington. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Draper passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

J.B. was born September 28, 1951 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the fourth of five children born to J.B. Draper and Rosie Maxene (Turner) Draper. He was raised in Oklahoma City and attended school there, graduating from U.S. Grant High School in 1969.

He worked at Sutherland Lumber Company for a short time, before opening his own business building pole barns.

J.B. married his best friend and life partner, Vicki Lee Brooks, on March 26, 1975, in Oklahoma City. By 1983 they had settled in Lexington, where they raised their children, Carter, Catherine and Remington. J.B. started working at the Joseph Harp Correctional Center and retired after more than 28 years of dedicated service.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family, and always found time to help a neighbor. He was proud of his Native American heritage and was a member of the Choctaw Nation. He cherished his family and was a man of great faith.  He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Draper; infant son, J. Walter Draper; parents, JB and Rosie Draper and siblings, Martha Musshafen, Robert Draper and Barry Draper. 

J.B. is survived by his children, Billy Draper and his wife, Naomi, of Milford, Kan., Carter Draper and wife, Ytonna, of Oklahoma City, Catherine Draper of Norman and Remington Draper of Oklahoma City; sister, Barbara Cole of Durant, Okla.; sister-in-law, Debra Brooks of Oklahoma City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
