Memorial Day ceremony Monday

The annual Purcell Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hillside Cemetery.

Army Col. John Mantooth will be the featured speaker, according to organizer Jay Tate.

Flags on graves of service men and women will be placed depending on weather and when mowing is completed, Tate said.

Donations for flags can be mailed to Jay Tate, Box 13, Purcell, OK 73080.

The service at the cemetery will be carried live on Facebook, the Purcell Memorial Day live and on the local radio station.

A Multi-jurisdictional Honor Guard from the McClain County Sheriff’s Department with  deputies Perry Settle and Scott Gibbons, Purcell Police  Det. Sgt. Scott Stephens and Lt. Kevin Austin will provide a gun salute.

The invocation will be presented by Justin Blankenship and taps will be performed by Raleigh Savage

“Flanders Field” will be  read by Samuel Shea.

The Purcell Register will be closed Monday along with city offices in Purcell, Goldsby, Lexington, Washington and Wayne.

Banks will be closed along with the McClain County Courthouse and all federal offices. There will be no mail delivery on Monday.

The Purcell Public Library will be closed both Sunday and Monday.
