School board races on the line

The filing period for school board candidates will be December 5-7 across Oklahoma.

Karen Haley, McClain County Election Board secretary, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. December 7.

Any contest of candidacy must be filed no later than December 9 and  must be filed by another candidate for that office.

If more than two candidates file for the same vacant board of education position, a primary election will be February 14, 2023. 

Any candidate receiving more than 50 percent of the vote will be deemed elected to the office.

Otherwise, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the vacant position in a general election on April 4.

In races drawing just two candidates, their names will appear on the April 4 ballot.

Declarations of candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:

Blanchard, Office 3

Dibble, Office 3.

Lexington, Office 3 (Cleveland County).

Newcastle, Office 3.

Purcell, Office 3.

Washington, Office 3.

Wayne, Office 3.

Mid-America Technology Center, Office 4.

Declaration of candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or by contacting your county election board office.

The McClain County Election Board is located in the McClain County Courthouse. Hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
