No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles teams qualify for State

Led by their No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles teams, both of whom qualified for the State Tennis Tournament, Purcell finished fourth in the 4A team race at Ada Monday.

Kaleb Bailey and Alec Thompson qualified for State in the No. 1 Doubles competition defeating CCS 6-4, 6-4 and Victory Christian 5-4, 4-6, 13-11 in between losses to Ardmore, 6-0, 6-3 to open the tournament and 6-1, 6-2 in the match for third place.

Their fourth place finish qualified them for the tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

Also finishing fourth and qualifying for the State Tournament was the No. 2 Doubles duet of Mason Rogers and Asa Byrne.

They defeated Harrah in their opening match, 6-4, 7-5. The duo dropped their second round match to Ada, 6-0 and 6-1 before bouncing back to knock off Victory Christian, 6-3, 6-2. They were defeated by Ardmore 6-4, 6-3 in their quest for third place.

Purcell’s No. 1 Singles player Ignacio Diano finished fifth with wins over Victory Christian 6-4, 6-3 and Harrah. Diano lost to Byng and Anadarko.

At No. 2 Singles, Aidan Blankenship registered a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bristow for fifth place. He lost to Byng and Harrah in the tournament.

In the team competition, Ada won the Regional with 46 points. Ardmore finished with second with 39 points followed buy Byng with 39 points and Purcell. The Dragons put up 30 points in the tournament finishing ahead of Harrah, Bristow, Anadarko, Victory Christian, Community Christian and Okmulgee.
