‘Dawgs’ returners have experience

Young squad has five starters back from last season

Lexington’s Bulldogs return five starters off last year’s squad giving coach Jarod Ennis, who begins his ninth season at Lexington,  high expectations for the 2022 campaign.

Those returning starters include Gus Turnpaugh, Drew Dierking, Corbin Perry, Ty Mixon and Zeke Faulkenberry.

Prospects to provide not only starters but key backups include Tanner Brock, Ryan Johnson, Buddy Cormany, Logan Carroll and Dax Beason.

Even though the Bulldogs are young, they have played a lot of baseball together over the years and have a great understanding of the game, Ennis reports.

“We lost only two to graduation and bring back a lot of starters who were very young last year,” the coach said.

“Now they have experience and know what to expect at the varsity level.

“We feel now despite our record last year that we can compete with just about anybody we play,” Ennis concluded.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Bridge Creek and Sulphur Friday and play Little Axe in a home and away series Monday and Tuesday.
