The Washington slow-pitch softball team completed a head-spinning six day stretch, ending as Turnpike Showdown champions on Saturday.

They earned wins over Harrah, Bethel (twice), Tecumseh, Dale, Ada, Calera, Roff, Sulphur, Caddo and Silo.

The lone loss in the stretch was a 9-8 finish against Rattan.

“We played a lot of games,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “It got us all caught up on games we needed to play.”

The Turnpike Showdown, which had games played in Roff and Sulphur, was loaded with top teams.

“There were some really good teams in it,” Lampkin said. “There were four fast-pitch State champions in it.”

Lampkin was especially happy with the way his team played on Saturday of the tournament against Sulphur, Caddo and Silo.

The Warriors scored 58 runs in total compared to opponent’s 33.

“We played really good Saturday,” Lampkin said. “For all but about 2-3 innings we played really good defense. We had no errors and were pretty solid. We handled some adversity too.”

In the finals against Silo, the Warriors hit 10 home runs.

They had deep shots from Elly Allison (3), Ellie Loveless (2), Tinley Lucas, Maggie Place (3) and Skylar Wells.

That followed a 14-homer game against Caddo.

Allison, Loveless (3), Tinley Lucas (4), Place (2), Wells (2) and Emjay Lucas (2) all went yard in the game.

Dale

Washington picked up another big win last Tuesday when they knocked off Class 4A No. 1 Dale, 7-1.

The Warriors jumped on the Pirates early and put four runs on the board in the first inning.

They followed that up with one run in the third inning and two for good measure in the fifth.

Dale’s lone trip around the bases came in the third inning.

Tinley Lucas had three hits, including two doubles.

Allison had three RBIs and Emjay Lucas had two RBIs and a home run.

It was a dominate win against the No. 1 team in the class.

Despite the success, Lampkin believes his team can keep improving.

“We’re going to keep on trying to get better every day and set ourselves in the rankings so we can hopefully host a Regional and get to play on our own field,” he said.

His team is ranked No. 2 in Class 4A and has an 18-2 record.

They played Lindsay on Tuesday and host Lexington today (Thursday).
