Bulldogs are out

Fall to Wetumka 73-63 to end season

Last Friday the Wayne Bulldogs’ season came to an end at the hands of Class A No. 19 Wetumka in the Regional tournament. They lost 73-63.

The game was tight in the first half. The Chieftains outscored the Bulldogs 17-13 through the first quarter. Wayne chipped away and outscored Wetumka in the second 23-22. But, the Chieftains held a 39-36 lead at halftime.

The Chieftains pulled away in the second half to seal their 10-point win.

Seniors Kaleb Madden and Taylen Bryant were the lead scorers for Wayne. They had 24 and 21. Wyatt Webster added seven.

Last Thursday, Wayne beat Thomas-Fay-Custer, 52-37, to advance to play Wetumka.

Thomas jumped out in front, outscoring Wayne 12-4 in the first quarter. But the Bulldogs came back and outscored them 13-9. They were down 21-17 at halftime.

The Bulldog defense tightened up in the second half as Wayne only allowed 16 second half points to the Terriers.

The Bulldogs outscored Thomas in the third and fourth quarters to pull out the win.

Bryant and Madden were Wayne’s top scorers. They had 18 and 14, respectively. Jaxon Dill had eight.

The Bulldogs ended their season with a 12-15 record. They will lose just three seniors to graduation – Madden, Bryant and Colton Sweetman.
