Life-long Purcell resident Bobby Bruehl ousted incumbent city councilman Allen Eubanks in last Tuesday’s election, 279 to 113.
Bruehl was quoted in last week’s Purcell Register that he ran because he believes in the strength and spirit of the great people of Purcell.
After the election totals were announced by McClain County Election Board Secretary Karen Haley, Bruehl made a statement to the newspaper.
“I would like to start out by giving Allen props,” Bruehl said. “We were literally sitting six feet apart at The Reimer Center watching Purcell and Pauls Valley play basketball.
“Each of us were watching our phones as 7 p.m. passed. Allen congratulates me and then posts a message to his supporters. His message was first class and made me proud to be his successor.
“I can’t tell you how good it felt to have the citizens of this great little town cast their votes for me. Now it’s time to get to work, making our town a place everyone will be proud of,” he concluded.
There are 3,694 registered voters in Purcell so the turnout for the city council election was around 10 percent.
