Barbara Jean Elam

Barbara Jean Elam of Lindsay was born on January 23, 1940 in Dibble, Oklahoma, to Edgar and Eva (Bacon) Howeth. She passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years.

Barbara was a graduate of Wayne High School. She married Richard “Dick” Elam on November 29, 1958. While living east of Maysville,  after Dick passed away suddenly in 2007, Barbara decided to moved to Lindsay.

She was a retired material processor for Tinker Air Force Base. She loved her family and cooking for them. Barbara enjoyed ceramics and taught others how to do them. 

She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening vegetables, playing cards, dominoes, sewing, and crocheting. She was a member of Iron Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Dibble and she loved her church family and being with them on Sundays to worship.

Survivors include her brothers, Junior Howeth and wife, Linda, of Comanche, Joey Howeth and wife, Peggy, of Purcell, and Lloyd Howeth and wife Georgia of Terrell, Texas; a sister, Joann Simmons and husband, AB, of Wylie, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Eva Howeth; husband, Richard L. “Dick” Elam; brothers, Connal Howeth, Marvin Howeth, Gaither Howeth and Calvin Howeth; and sisters, Joyce Turner and Estelle Wright.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Iron Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Dibble with her brother, Bro. Joey Howeth officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay, Okla., under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Okla.
