Posted

The annual Purcell Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hillside Cemetery.

Navy Veteran Jeff Page will be the featured speaker, according to organizer Jay Tate.

Flags on graves of service men and women will be placed depending on weather and when mowing is completed, Tate said.

Donations for flags can be mailed to Jay Tate, Box 13, Purcell, OK 73080.

The service at the cemetery will be carried live on Facebook at “Purcell Memorial Day Veterans Ceremony”, and on the local radio station – KQTR-FM, the Horse, 93.9 FM.

A Multi-jurisdictional Honor Guard from the McClain County Sheriff’s Department  and the Purcell Police Department will provide a gun salute.

The invocation will be presented by Justin Blankenship.

“Flanders Field” will be  read by Parker Page.

City Manager Dale Bunn reports the city will program the storm sirens to play “Taps” at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The nation-wide Taps Across America calls on citizens to pause for one minute at 3 p.m. local time in remembrance of all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Those who can play a bugle are asked to play Taps near an American Flag or by a grave of a veteran.

Those who play an instrument are encouraged to video their performance and send it to www.tapsacrossamerica.org.
