The Lexington girls had a good week again. The Lady ‘Dawgs went 2-1 with a defeat at Purcell and wins against Marlow and Davis.
Lexington is now 16-4 and ranked No. 15 in Class 3A.
Last Friday, Lex traveled across the Nance Bridge to visit the Purcell Lady Dragons.
Purcell (12-8) won the game, 61-57, and swept the series with the Lady ‘Dawgs after having beaten Lexington, 49-45, on Jan. 14. The Lady Dragons used a strong second and third quarter push to keep the visiting Lady ‘Dawgs inside their cages.
Lexington simply couldn’t handle Kora Keith of Purcell, who had a game-high 26 points.
The Lady ‘Dawgs were led by Emilee Jenks on the scoresheet with 18 points, followed by Lauren Beason with 13 and Rylee Beason with 11.
Last Saturday, the Lady ‘Dawgs pulled off a tight 46-41 victory over the Marlow Lady Outlaws at home. Marlow (12-9) kept things close the entire game and put a scare into Lexington.
At halftime, it was a nail-biter at 23-22 in favor of Lex. The Lady ‘Dawgs kept on pushing the ball up the floor and ended up winning the contest in a tough struggle.
Sharpshooter Amanda Graddy led all scorers with 22 points. Lauren Beason contributed 16 strong points against the Lady Outlaws.
On Monday, Lexington traveled to Davis (7-12) and the Lady ‘Dawgs beat them, 40-22, with some very strong defense.
Lauren Beason was again a strong force to reckon with. She had a team-leading 16 points. Teammates Rylee Beason and Jaci Idlett both contributed six points for Lex in the low-scoring affair.
Next up are the final two home games of the season against Bridge Creek on Thursday and Wayne on Saturday.
The Class 4A Bridge Creek Lady Bobcats are 9-11 under head coach Bretlin Sanders. The Class 2A Wayne Lady Bulldogs are 10-8 under head coach Josh Trent.
Post-season play will begin for Lexington on Feb. 21.
The Lexington boys’ basketball team performed well in the last week. The ‘Dawgs went 2-1 and shored up their record to 7-13.
Last Friday, Lexington went across the Nance Bridge to battle the neighboring Purcell Dragons (16-4). Purcell (ranked No. 15 in Class 3A) beat Lex, 43-35, as the ‘Dawgs tried to pull off an upset with some spirited play.
But, the result was the same as the last time when the Dragons beat the ‘Dawgs, 53-44, on Jan. 14 at Lexington.
At the end of the third quarter, Lexington held the lead, 28-26.
Purcell pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the ‘Dawgs, 17-7.
Teagin Pruitt led Lexington with 15 points while Colton Penner added 12 points for the ‘Dawgs.
Last Saturday, Lexington hosted the Marlow Outlaws (12-9) and escaped with a hard-fought 32-31 victory.
Jeremiah Muniz was the leading scorer for the ‘Dawgs with nine points, followed by Pruitt and Penner, both with seven points.
It was 12-11 in favor of Lexington at halftime against Marlow. But, the visiting Outlaws pulled out to a 23-19 lead after three quarters. The ‘Dawgs used Pruitt’s five points and Jaylen Cottrell’s four points in the final period in order to win the game.
On Monday, the ‘Dawgs traveled to Davis to take on the Wolves, who have an 8-13 record.
Lexington beat Davis, 41-37, led by Penner’s 13 points. Cottrell and Josiah Dawley each had eight points for Lexington, which led 25-18 at halftime.
“I’m just proud of these young men,” Lexington head coach J.D. Beck said.
“They’re playing hard and putting in the work to continually get better day in and day out.”
The final two games of the regular season are coming up for Lexington and both will be home affairs against Class 4A Bridge Creek on Thursday and Class 2A Wayne on Saturday. Bridge Creek’s Bobcats are just 3-17 this year and the ‘Dawgs beat them, 45-42, on Jan. 17.
The Wayne Bulldogs are 9-10.
The post-season will begin for Lexington with districts on Feb. 21.
