Carolyn Holmes Breeden

A Celebration of Life Service for Carolyn Holmes Breeden, 93, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Breeden passed from this life into Heavenly Glory on June 13, 2019.

Carolyn was born January 6, 1926 in Ardmore, Okla., to Ruby Vincent and Heston L. Holmes. Her family moved to Purcell and after graduating from Purcell High School she attended nursing school and completed her LPN training.

She then met Charles Breeden, a WWII Navy serviceman, and they were married on October 9, 1945 in Purcell, Okla.  They had one son, Eddie Breeden.

She worked as a nurse in the Oklahoma City area while Charles attended the University of Oklahoma. Carolyn and Charles traveled extensively in the continental United States and with the Friendship Force International to many countries abroad including Russia, Australia, Egypt, Turkey, Japan, China, UK, South America, Israel and Europe. They hosted many couples from these countries as part of the Friendship Force Program.

Carolyn loved meeting new people and had a very adventurous spirit. She made many friends around the globe and loved to share about her experiences. She was an avid researcher of her family’s geneology and an active member of the McClain County Historical Society. She was extremely proud of her family and of their family heritage. She spent hours researching and even traveling to other parts of the country so that she could gather more information.

Her grandfather, Grant Vincent,  was the second McClain Country Sheriff, and her father, Heston Holmes, owned and operated the Holmes family variety store in downtown Purcell.

A devout follower of Jesus Christ, Carolyn has been a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for most of her life. She was also a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, and has served in her local church on various committees. She dearly loved the Lord and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her son, Eddie; her parents, H.L.  and Ruby Holmes; her sister, Marjorie Holmes Hughes and brother, Jimmy Holmes.

Survivors include her nephews, Roger H. Hughes and Georgia of Ardmore and Robert V. Hughes, D.D.S. and Donna of Ardmore; great-niece and caregiver, Kelley Hughes Segler of Ardmore; five great-nieces and nephews and two more generations of nieces and nephews. She also leaves a legacy of many loving friends and other family members.
