Services for Barbara Lorraine Powell, 68, of Lindsay will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Boydston-Wilbourn Funeral Home Chapel in Lindsay, Oklahoma. She will be laid to rest following the service at the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
Barbara passed from her earthly home into the arms of her heavenly Father on April 7, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Barbara was born May 14, 1950 in Sayre, Oklahoma, to William Lloyd Smith and Helen Iona (Waggoner) Smith. She attended Lindsay High School where she graduated in 1968. She was a proud Lindsay Leopard and thoroughly enjoyed their 50th school reunion held in 2018.
She earned her degree in cosmetology and worked for many years in that field. She later became a commercial truck driver working for several companies and became a cross country driver with her husband, Frank.
Barbara enjoyed telling stories about their team driving. She last drove for U.S. Express before fulfilling her dream of going back to school to become a registered nurse. Barbara worked for the V.A. Hospital in Oklahoma City and at Pauls Valley Hospital before retiring.
Barbara loved gardening, working around the farm and family get-togethers.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Leslie “Frank” Kuykendall of Lindsay; daughter Tammy and husband Stephen Wagstaff of Edmond, OK: son Jesse and wife Summer Kuykendall of Moore, OK: daughter Traci and husband, Chuck Flanagan, of New Bern, N.C.; daughter Novalean “Tinker” Owen of Lindsay, Okla.; grandchildren include Stepheny Wagstaff, Jessica King, Tyler Simms, Hailey Simms, Angelica Simms, Brennen Flanagan, Rianne Flanagan, Tad Bennett, Cheyenne Owen, Katelyn Gage and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Calvin Smith of Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Barbara also leaves behind a host of nursing friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her first husband, Stanley G. Powell; a sister, Carol Chappel; brother, Clayton Smith and a sister, Clovis Allen.
Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Boydston-Wilbourn Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
