Forty-eight duplex and four-plex apartments under construction at Village on Green will provide affordable housing for low-income senior citizens when they open later this year.
Angie Paro, compliance officer with Belmont Development Co., in Oklahoma City, said the construction will consist of one- and two-bedroom units at 1900 N. Green Ave.
All residents must be 62 or older with income under certain levels to qualify.
Projected rents for one-bedroom units are $610 and $700 per month.
The one-bedroom units are 681 square feet and the two-bedroom units are 967 square feet.
Section 8 vouchers will be accepted.
Paro said construction hasn’t been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are shooting for a November 1 opening,” she said, adding the company will begin accepting applications in mid- to late-August.
Applications are only good for 120 days.
Paro said there is already a waiting list for applications with more than 30 names.
Prospective tenants have been “blowing up my phone” since the construction began, Paro said.
“I’ve talked to some of the sweetest folks,” she added.
The units will rent unfurnished, but will have new appliances including washers and dryers. There will be plank flooring and carpeting.
The development will include a large community room which will feature a workout room and library.
Belmont acquired tax credits through the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency to finance the development.
“The competition for state tax credits is pretty steep,” Paro said.
