You might think this is autumn, but for a few hours Friday Purcell High School students and fans will revel in the Season of the Dragons.

The occasion will be homecoming 2020, starting with a parade on Main Street at 1:30 p.m., coronation of a homecoming queen and king at 6:30 p.m., and the kickoff against the Holdenville Wolverines at 7 p.m.

Queen candidates are seniors Kylee Bennett, Carlee Dismuke, Kora Keith and Emma Meyer.

Their attendants will be Alexia Gibson, a junior; Annistyn Raper, sophomore, and Camdyn Frankenberg, freshman.

King candidates are all the senior football players – Gage Askew, Mojo Browning, Gavin Constant, Kyle Hogan, Kody Kroth, Johnny Marquez, Jakeb Pollard, Jaysen Shea, Dayton Smith, Gammy Solis, Cale Walker, Tyler Williams and Sam Wofford.

Bennett has been a football trainer for four years and also helps with Purcell Little League football. She is on the honor roll. She is the daughter of Susan and Philip Bennett.

Dismuke is a PHS cheer captain and four-year Student Council officer. She is president of the executive council of Student Council. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. Her parents are Amber and Carl Dismuke.

Keith is a four-year member of the basketball and track teams at PHS. She is senior class president and is an All-Stater in track. Her parents are Krysta Matthews and Kody Keith.

Meyer is a four-year Student Council member and senior class officer. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a National Honor Society member. She is the daughter of  Erin Cooper and Brian Meyer.

Gibson is a cheerleader and NHS and Student Council member. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. She is the daughter of Rocky Gibson and the late Kimberly Gibson.

Raper is a cheerleader and the sophomore reporter on the Student Council. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. She is the daughter of Kerri Raper and Roger Raper.

Frankenberg is a member of the PHS cheer squad and Cheers and More Shining Starz Competitive Cheer Squad. She was on the Special Needs Division’s 2020 NCA Champion Cheer Squad. She is on the principal’s honor roll and is the daughter of  Lori and Glenn Frankenberg.

Askew is a four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams. He was the Northwest Regional Powerlifting Champion in the 157 weight class and is a captain of the Dragons football team. He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is an NHS member. He is the son of Heather Askew and Barry Askew.

Browning is a four-year member of the football and basketball teams. He was the Canadian Conference Most Valuable Player and was on the All-Region basketball team. He is the son of Nicole Leatherman and Gianni Browning.

Constant is a four-year member of the football and baseball teams. He is the son of Sarah Jones and Dewey Constant.

Hogan is on the football team and is an honor student. His parents are Jamie Hogan and Paul Hogan.

Kroth is a Letter “P” Award recipient and is a captain of the football team. He is a four-year member of the team and is on the honor roll. He is the son of Brandi and Quinn Kroth.

Marquez is a four-year member of the football  and powerlifting teams. He has been named Defensive and Offensive Lineman of the Week. He is the son of Elda  and Valeriano Marquez.

Pollard is on the football team. He is the son of Kandi Rector and Bruce Pollard.

Shea is a four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams. He is a football team captain and won a regional championship in powerlifting, in addition to being named Defensive and Offensive Lineman of the Week. He is the son of Cassy and JE Shea.

Smith is an honor student and is a four-year member of the football and baseball teams. He is the son of Terri Williams, Jimmy Smith and Melissa Smith.

Solis is on the football and track teams and is a four-year member of the basketball team. He was on the conference champion basketball team in 2019. He is the son of Ana and Juan Solis.

Walker is the Dragons kicker and is a four-year member of the football team. He is also  on the powerlifting team. He is the son of Cinnamon and Chuck Walker.

Williams is a four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams and was a regional champion in powerlifting. He is also a Letter “P” Award recipient, in addition to holding a Student Council office for four years. He is an honor student and member of NHS. His parents are Alicia and Keith Williams.

Wofford is a football captain and four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams. He twice qualified for state in powerlifting and has been a Student Council officer for four years. He is the son of Julie Wofford and Kenny Wofford.

Rounding out the royal court are Bryntley Duke, flower girl, and Ledger Gray, crown bearer.

Bryntley plays softball with the Purcell Rockets and also enjoys tumbling. She is the daughter of  Katelyn and Dalton Duke.

Ledger makes his own songs and movies. His parents are Taylor and Mitchell Gray.
