Crowns await Purcell High School’s basketball homecoming king and queen Friday.
The 6 p.m. coronation in the Reimer Center will precede the Dragons 6:30 p.m. game against the Marlow Outlaws.
The girls team will play after the boys.
Queen candidates are Alicia Baker, Anoli Billy, Sandra Del Toro and Chelsea Spain.
In the running for king are Gavin Nation and Grant Smith.
All are seniors.
Baker is the daughter of Holly and Sean Baker. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership team. She played on the State Champion Girls Golf team. She plans to attend Henderson State University on a basketball scholarship.
Billy is the daughter of Phillip and Lisa Billy. She is FFA president and vice president of the senior class and National Honor Society. She is on the FCA leadership team and is the current Oklahoma Girls State governor. She will attend either Oklahoma State University or Oral Roberts University on an Air Force ROTC scholarship.
Del Toro is the daughter of Diana and Edgar Del Toro. She is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and FCA. She is also a Letter “P” Award recipient. She has played softball and basketball for four years and is a member of the State Champion and State Runner-up Lady Dragon softball team. She plans to attend college and major in nursing.
Spain is the daughter of Mike and Teri Spain. She is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and FCA leadership team. She was on the 1,600-meter relay State Champion track team, as well as the State Champion and State Runner-up Lady Dragon softball team. She will play Division 1 softball at Northwestern State University.
Nation is the son of Scott and Melissa Nation. He is a Student Council officer, National Honor Society officer and is on the FCA leadership team. He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and Letter “P” Award recipient. He is a four time state qualifier in cross country and two time state qualifier in track and tennis. He was the regional long jump champion in 2019. He plans to attend either the University of Oklahoma or OSU to become a veterinarian.
Smith is the son of Bill and Jennifer Smith. He is a member of National Honor Society and is a Student Council officer. He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a four-year Letter “P” Award recipient. He plans to attend OSU.
Rounding out the royal court are Brielle Gardner as flower girl and Westin Cunnius as crown bearer. Both are 8 and in second grade at Purcell Elementary School.
Brielle is the daughter of Charlie Gardner and Rebecca and Derick Berkley. She loves softball, basketball and hiking with her family.
Westin is the son of Dillon and Kenzie Cunnius. He enjoys playing soccer with his dog and golf lessons with queen candidate Anoli Billy.
