Quick and professional action by the McClain County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the apprehension of an armed robbery suspect last Friday afternoon.
Sheriff Deputy Kaylee Dobbins arrested a juvenile on Division Street just north of the Family Dollar Store in Wayne on SH 59.
Undersheriff Landy Offolter said at the time of the arrest the juvenile did not have a weapon.
Several deputies, including Detective David Tompkins, remained on the scene hours after the 12:30 p.m. incident searching for a weapon or any other clues in the area.
The suspect made off with cash, which was recovered when he was arrested, still on foot in Wayne.
Offolter reported there were two or three customers in the store plus a clerk when the juvenile entered.
No one was injured in the incident.
Tompkins said the clerk at Family Dollar called 911 to report she had been robbed at gunpoint by a male subject wearing a mask.
The clerk, staring down the barrel of a weapon, complied with the request and put the cash in a shopping bag.
At the time of his arrest, the juvenile had $215 in cash in his pocket wrapped in a Family Dollar shopping bag, Tompkins reported.
“The McClain County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the community members whose witness statements helped deputies solve the case,” Tompkins said.
