The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated a fatality accident on Interstate 35 just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, McClain County’s second fatality in as many days.
Investigating Trooper Chad Pape said Billy Duane Guttery, 51, of Oklahoma City was killed in the one vehicle accident at mile marker 94.5 at 6:18 p.m.
Pape said the 2001 Ford F-150 Guttery was driving was southbound on the interstate when it departed the roadway to the left for an unknown reason.
The vehicle overturned one time and came to rest on its wheels. Guttery was pronounced dead at the scene from head and neck injuries.
The vehicle crossed over the median of the interstate where there was no cable barrier.
The accident snarled northbound interstate traffic for three hours.
Assisting at the scene were Lt. Robert Winrow, Trooper Shayne Ballard, Purcell Police Department, Purcell Fire Department and Wadley’s EMS.
