Courting crowns

Saturday’s gridiron match will pit the Washington Warriors against the Bethel Wildcats.

But what happens before the opening kickoff at 3 p.m. is every bit as important as what follows.

It’s Washington High School’s homecoming and the coronation of a queen and king will begin at 2:30 p.m.

A homecoming parade is Friday starting at 2:50 p.m.

Queen candidates are seniors Kinzie Schultz, Payton Glasgow and Peyton Prock. Their attendants will be Kaytin McKay, a junior; Ellie Loveless, a sophomore, and Aly Hobbs, a freshman.

Kinzie Schultz, 17, plays softball. She is the daughter of Bronwyn Boswell and Chadd Schultz.

Glasgow, 17, is a member of National Honor Society, band, Student Council, Science Club, the Academic Team and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. She is the daughter of Amy Glasgow.

Prock, 18, is a varsity cheerleader and member of NHS, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Fish Club. She was on the state champion cheer squad in 2017 and 2019 and the state runner-up in 2018. She is the daughter of Rick Prock and Abbie and Kyle Harris.

McKay, 16, plays basketball and competes in track. She is a member of NHS, FCA, Fish Club, Science Club, Art Club and the Oklahoma High School Honor Society. She was a state runner-up in fast-pitch softball in 2018 and 2019 and was a quarter-finalist in basketball  and slow-pitch softball in 2019. She also qualified for the state meet 800-meter relay in 2019. She is the daughter of Paul and Holley McKay.

Loveless, 16, plays fast- and slow-pitch softball and competes in track. She was a member of the state runner-up fast-pitch team in 2019. She is the daughter of Cara Loveless and Kenny Loveless.

Hobbs, 15, is a varsity cheerleader and was on the junior high state champion Class 3A squad. She is the daughter of Amy Hobbs.

King candidates are seniors Kaden DuBois, Jadon Sanchez, Jaxon Sanchez,Kelton Schultz, Austin Smith, Lucas Steele and Emitt Wilk.

DuBois, 17, plays football and is ranked a five-star kicker. He holds the school record with a 51-yard field goal. He is a member of NHS and Science Club. He is an assistant coach for Little League Football and was nominated as a delegate to Boys State. He is the son of Laura Clinton and John DuBois.

Jadon Sanchez, 17, plays football and is a member of NHS and FCA. He was a member of the 2017 state runner-up and 2019 district championship teams and was The Purcell Register’s Player of the Week. He is the son of Ashley and Rayson Sanchez.

Jaxon Sanchez, 17, plays football and basketball. He is a member of FCA and NHS. He was on the 2017 state runner-up football team. He is the son of Ashley and Rayson Sanchez.

Kelton Schultz, 18, plays football, basketball and baseball. He is a member of FCA and NHS. He played on the state runner-up football team in 2017 and the district champion team in 2019. He is the son of Bronwyn Boswell and Chadd Schultz.

Smith, 17, plays football and is the team captain. He participates in powerlifting and is a member of FCA. He coaches Little League. He was on the state runner-up football team in 2017 and the district champion team in 2019. He is the son of Mike and Jarata Smith.

Steele, 18, plays football and basketball. He is a member of FCA and NHS. In 2017, he was on the state runner-up football team. He is the son of Todd and Angie Steele.

Wilk, 18, plays football and baseball and competes in track. He is a member of FCA and NHS. In 2017, he was on the state runner-up football team. He is the son of Jonathan and Tasha Wilk.

Pre-K students Peyton Enox and Gage Wilk complete the royal court as flower girl and crown bearer, respectively.

Peyton, 4, is active in gymnastics and dance. She is the daughter of Kyle and Jessica Enox.

Gage, 4, enjoys karate. He is the son of Tim and Brooke Wilk.
