Dragon hopes an’ hoops

The basketball homecoming court at Purcell High School will gain a queen and a king Friday evening before the Dragons play the Pauls Valley Panthers. Purcell High School’s basketball homecoming will play out Friday before the Dragons meet the Pauls Valley Panthers in The Reimer Center.

The coronation of a homecoming queen and king will be at center court at 6 p.m.

Tip off in the boys game will be at 6:40 p.m. followed by the girls game.

Queen candidates are Kora Keith, Emily Madden and Kayla Skinner.

Vying for the king’s crown are Mojo Browning, Misael Duque and Gammy Solis.

All six candidates are seniors.

Keith is senior class president and president of the National Honor Society. She is also an officer of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a four-year member of the Lady Dragons basketball team and the track team. Keith was a member of the 2018 All-State 4x400 meter relay team. She is the daughter of Krysta Matthews and Kody Keith.

Madden is a four-year member of the basketball, cross country and track teams. She is on Student Council and is an NHS member and FCA officer. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. She is on this year’s CCS basketball All-Tournament Team. She is the daughter of Melissa Madden.

Skinner is active in basketball and volleyball. She is also an NHS member. She is the daughter of Brandon and Robin Skinner.

Browning is a four-year member of the basketball and football teams. He was named Canadian Valley Most Valuable Player and made the All-Region team in basketball. He is the son of Nicole Leatherman and Gianni Browning.

Duque is a four-year member of the basketball team and is a member of NHS. He is the son of Marcial and Lucia Duque.

Solis is a four-year member of the basketball team and is also on the football and track teams. In 2019 he was on the Conference Championship basketball team. He is the son of Ana and Juan Solis.

Other court members are kindergarten students Leni Snow, flower girl, and Kache Hines, crown bearer.

 Leni is active in gymnastics and plays softball for the Purcell Rockets. She also plays basketball. She is the daughter of Kasi and Luke Snow.

Kache plays both basketball and baseball, and also enjoys swimming. He is the son of Amber and Roy Hines.
