Purcell’s focus on football homecoming will shift to Main Street on Friday afternoon.

A homecoming parade is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and Tom McCurdy will be the grand marshal.

This year’s homecoming theme is “The Most Magical Place on Turf.”

McCurdy grew up in Purcell and graduated from Purcell High School in 1958.

He lettered in three sports and was a starter on the Dragons’ state champion basketball team in 1957.

He later attended the University of Oklahoma on a basketball scholarship.

Following his graduation from OU in 1962, he entered the Army, working as an investigator at Ft. Holabird, Md.

In 1968, he returned to Purcell to manage The Purcell Register. He was later owner/publisher of the newspaper, which he sold in 1990.

McCurdy has been an active supporter of Purcell schools, faculty and students.

He is a past-president of Purcell Rotary Club and longtime member of the Purcell Chamber of Commerce.
