A McClain County Detention Officer went from jailer to jailed after he was arrested last Friday in connection with an incident at the jail.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents arrested the detention officer, who is facing possible charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and maiming.
Law enforcement officers said the officer allowed two inmates to enter a cell and physically assault another inmate.
After booking, the detention officer was transported to an area jail for safety reasons.
McClain County Sheriff Don Hewett said another detention officer was terminated for policy and procedures violations.
The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
“The sheriff’s office is extremely disappointed in the actions of the detention officer because he was in a position of trust and responsibility,” Hewett said. “It is our mission to protect our citizens and the inmates in our care.
“We will never tolerate any misconduct by any of our employees towards our citizens or our inmates.
“We have started an internal investigation to determine how this incident occurred and if any other staff members are involved and if any policy and procedures were violated,” Hewett said.
