What started off as a welfare check on Elizabeth Trammell at 103 W. Huron last week turned out to be 32 dogs carted off and taken to the Purcell Animal Shelter.
Three counts of cruelty to animals were filed against Elizabeth Trammell and James Jeffrey Trammell, court officials said.
Police said Mr. Trammell was not at the residence at the time of the incident.
Arresting officers were Joe Santmyer, Todd Carpenter and Louise Zastrow.
Officials said most all of the animals had been kept inside the house where extremely filthy conditions existed.
The animal shelter is accepting donations for the care of the animals.
