Longtime law enforcement officer Bobby Elmore is settling in as Purcell’s Chief of Police.
Elmore was promoted from Captain to Chief after longtime Chief Kevin Williams retired effective December 31.
The department held a retirement reception for Williams that day.
Williams had been on the Purcell Force since coming here in 1992 from his home town of Sulphur.
Elmore first worked on the staff of the McClain County Sheriff’s Department in 1995 before moving to the police department in 1999.
He took a short break from his police work in Purcell, working for the Aurora, CO., Police Department in 2005.
He returned here in 2007 and had advanced his way up to Captain.
With Elmore moving up to Chief, Patrol Lt. James Bolling has been promoted to Captain.
Bolling and his wife, Jana, have two children, Lilyan, eight and Travis, 15.
In making the announcement of the promotions, City Manager Dale Bunn said he has every confidence in Elmore as Chief and advancing Bolling to Captain.
“I enjoyed working with Kevin,” Bunn said of the retiring chief. “I thought he really cared about his staff and the people of Purcell.”
Williams served as Interim Chief from April of 2007 to June of ‘07 when then City Manager Eric Johnson removed the Interim title.
Elmore graduated from Trinidad, CO, High School and attended Trinidad State Junior College.
He has received law enforcement training from various schools and seminars.
He and his wife, Shandra, have two children, Aubrey, 12 and Sophie, five.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity,” Elmore told The Purcell Register. “We have great things in store for the department that will extend to the citizens.
“We are going to try to make the department as professional as possible. We are looking to get state certified and after that accredited,” he said.
In addition to Elmore and Bolling, Purcell’s Police Department consists of C.I.D. Lt. Kevin Austin, Sgt. Todd Carpenter, Sgt. Heather Kaluzy, Sgt. Jerome Hayes, Sgt. Joe Santmyer, Det. Sgt. Scott Stephens, Cpl. John Idlett, Cpl. John Albertson, Animal Control Officer David Claunch, Cpl. Gaetano Cipriano, Cpl. Josh Van Ort, Ofc. Thomas Rollins, Ofc. Michael Smith, Ofc.
