What started out as two friends practicing to stop an intruder ended with one of the men getting shot in the chest.

Last Friday just after 8 p.m. Heath Pope, 34 of Wayne, took the magazine out of his weapon and thought the chamber was empty.

Rocky V. Trammell, 38 of Washington, entered the house at 29911 150th Street in Wayne with Pope pulling the weapon out of its holster.

When he fired the weapon, Trammell took a single gun shot to his chest. He was taken to Purcell Municipal Hospital’s Emergency Room and later flown to the OU Medical Center for further treatment.

McClain County Sheriff’s Detective David Tompkins investigated the accidental shooting.
